There used to to an icon when on top of the screen that let me know WiFi calling was enabled and active. After upgrading to v9 that icon is now gone. How can I know if WiFi calling is active and working short of turning off my data and just using WiFi?
In Pie only the icons for features that are active are shown. For example if your Bluetooth is enabled but it is not connected the Bluetooth icon does not show.
Even when WiFi calling is active, there isn’t an icon for it on the upper left hand side of the screen. And, yes, I can pull down and see it’s on, but in the past, it showed enabled, but wasn’t functioning (icon missing).
I have the same thing on my S9. Wi-fi calling works just fine (I only know this because I don't have cell service inside my house and I'm able to send/receive calls and texts), but the icon disappeared after the update to Pie.
I have just now started noticing this exact thing on my Unlocked S9+ running Pie. In fact, I just posted about in r/GalaxyS9. Just this last week (Thurs, May 2nd) I got the April 1, 2019 security update...yes I know it's Samsung...we know...it's stupid. I just noticed the issue yesterday (Mon. May 6th) and I thought it was just some software error and today I was playing around with it. I made sure wifi calling was enabled (updates frequently screw with settings) and saw that it was and wifi preferred was selected and notifications were enabled as well. Then I put my phone into airplane mode, enabled wifi and as soon as it connected I tried to make a call and I got a message that I had to enable mobile data to complete the call...sooooooo wifi calling was NOT working even though it was set to and wifi was enabled and connected to my trusted home wifi. Next I turned airplane mode off, disabled mobile data and wifi. Then I re-enabled wifi and as soon as it connected to my wifi I checked the settings and all was good so I tried a call and it went through so now it was working but still no wifi calling icon in the notification bar or in the phone app. This is concerning. How can we know it is in fact working? Do we need to turn off mobile data when we get on wifi just to make sure we're not using minutes? Is this carrier specific even though I'm on an unlocked phone I realize the carrier can screw with options.
Hopefully this is just a hiccup and my tests although repeated were not exhaustive. What happens with a restart and what happens with a full off and on? What happens if I do a hard reset? I HATE doing that because it takes a stupid long time to get things back to where I had it with apps and settings...oh and the backup that needs to be done beforehand and was it a setting that would probably be restored after a backup or just junk memory or some software copy/scramble issue from write/copy/overwrite/use that a hard reset fixes?
