What I think about the V20 coming from a Samsung fan

Been using Samsung phones for the longest time, since the S2! Now that I have the V20, I can tell you what I think about it compared to the Samsung phones. Right off the bat, the V20 OS is snappier with zero lag. I was using an S7, and though it wasn't necessarily slow, the TouchWiz seemed to take up some RAM and cause a slight delay when navigating through the OS. Screen quality is excellent, though I do miss the AMOLED screen, I've already gotten used to the IPS display. I kind of prefer that the screen is IPS because colors look more natural and cool. The battery life is excellent! As long as you fine tune everything, it can last all day or more (note, I used to have the S7 Active with a 4000 mAh battery, the V20 is more battery efficient). The USB C technology is very good, phone doesn't get hot when charging and battery holds a charge better. Stand by time is amazing! Camera quality is excellent, though the Samsung has a better software in my opinion and overall more well rounded, though the V20 has more detail in photos. The S7 camera shot photos much faster with the duel pixel technology and shoots better low light, but the 12MP really brings down the fine details. The wide angle camera on the front and rear proves to be very useful when taking photos with friends. The IR blaster is useful on the V20! I didn't understand why Samsung took that out. The 2nd screen is very neat, though I don't really use it except for notifications and changing the track on the music player. The removable battery is the best part. After using a Samsung phone for 10 months, I noticed the battery life wasn't as great as when I had it the first day. I feel like I don't have a "disposable" phone with an expiration date, and can feel better knowing I can swap out the batteries when needed. Really missed the old Samsung phones that had removable batteries, I always had a spare ready to go in seconds! Overall, great phone. My only disappointment is that I don't have the FM tuner enabled on my phone (Using the US996 unlocked version). Also, there aren't much themes available to choose from versus the Samsung theme store. Also, no Samsung Pay feature, but I can live without that.

I also come from a few years of Samsung, the S4 was my first. I find this phone to be equal to Samsung and more value in certain aspects.

1. Removable battery
2. No touchwiz
3. Ir blaster
4. No threats yet of this phone blowing up. (apparently some random issues with Galaxy S7 batterys)
5. You should not get screen burn in on this display like I got on my S5
6. I find the camera to be equal to or better than Samsung in certain aspects

There's more but that's my 2 cents. I also find 7.0 OS to be way better than Marshmallow. I also found it annoying how Samsung did their updates. Slow and always had to do a reset for some reason afterwards.

Welcome over to the dark side. We should be pleasantly surprised in our decision to get off the Samsung bandwagon.

If you are using Verizon as your carrier with the US996, you will also be missing the Advanced calling features of wifi calling and video calling in addition to the FM radio; something that for a phone touted as optimized for music/media is one of the main reasons I returned both my US996 and my Verizon versions, even though the audio was outstanding, IMO.

What you DO have on the unlocked version, which is also so awesome, is Google In Apps Search Shortcut for searching anything on your phone... try it. I almost kept the phone for that single, wonderful thing. Put it in your second display and use it a couple of times and you'll love it!

I didn't realize how much I missed the S-pen & waterproof of the Samsung, though. Like you, Samsung for years now.

If LG comes out with this phone next year, sticks a stylus on it, makes it waterproof, and negotiates better with Verizon so premium features are not disabled, Samsung might just lose a customer to them... :-)

I miss the music... a lot...

Although the sound quad dac feature is advertised as curing cancer, the sound was better on my Note 4 with the stock effects.

I contacted LG about the device being devoid of even a simple equalizer and the response I got was almost'...please return your device and buy a Samsung..' because they do not intend to install one with a future update.

The generic API eqs from Google play are all muddy but the Samsung Sound Alive was much better. Other than that, the device is far overbuilt for my purposes.

The only options are to root your device or buy another manufacturer's model.

Battery is severely lacking. I would have expected a significantly larger capacity for such a large screen. My Note 4 battery was very adequate but this one isn't

Sounds like you are really enjoying your V20, OP! I agree: having a removable battery is a rich benefit. My removable battery on my G3 has saved me from a few freezes and glitches. Glad you're enjoying the phone! :)

Why not just purchase one of the many high quality music players. I use Poweramp and it has a wonderful equalizer/pre-amp.

Interesting. My Sprint version came with Google In Apps installed. It also has wi-fi calling.

Im verizon and i have advanced video and Wi-Fi calling

My battery life is pretty darned nice, far superior to my V10. I have no complaints about the V20's battery at all.

Same here. You might have to do some tweaking to get excellent battery life. I currently use Forze Doze and Greenify. A tip with Greenify is to only manually hibernate apps you rarely use. Also, I disallowed each individual apps that I don't need to run in the background.

The main thing I missed about Samsung was Samsung Pay but now that I have the Gear S3 with SP I don't miss much now.

Average screen on time is about 6 hours or more.

I have had the opposite experience..I have had the Note 4, 7, Galaxy 7 and Edge 7 and this has kept up or surpassed most of them including the Edge 7 for MY use. I never got more than 4 hours of SOT with the Edge 7 and I always get 4.5-5 with the LG. With that said, comparing Marshmallow to Nougat isn't quite fair either.

This is true. Nougat definitely preforms a lot smoother. Even the people who have the beta for the S7 Edge report a huge difference in performance.

"Interesting" is not actually the phrase I chose when discussing it with Verizon & LG... ;-)

I am convinced I would still have a v20 if I was able to be with AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mo. I am sure of the features, though. I purchased both phones, did a comparison because no one would give me any straight answers - a Verizon version and an unlocked model that I activated on Verizon - only to return them both. There are other unlocked phones that have wifi calling that works on Verizon, too.

Glad you guys are enjoying the V20 it is a good phone, i like it but when the note 8 arrives the v20 will be placed on the inactive list.
