..... as it applies to me.

Coming off the OG Droid I will be taking particular notice to the below other than the obvious signal strength, battery life and such stuff.

A month or so ago after trying and returning an HTC Dinc2 because of several disappointments over my old OG Droid particularly with the audio I took the OGD to a Verizon store and compared it side by side to many others.
It made me appreciate the Audio of the OGD and amazed me how much better it Web Surfed. I cleared my cache and anything like cookies and went to new sites too.
It seemed most of the phones in the store had poor audio Strength in comparison to my OGD.

I need to feel the thing vibrate in my pocket and have a fighting chance to hear it. The OGD smoked the Dinc2 in that respect.
And to be able to set it on my console and use speaker phone and not get a complaint about it. The OGD does fine against the road noise of my vehicle and just plain and simple has a nice speaker. The ear piece speaker is so loud I have to keep it turned down.

The Dinc2 had to have every thing maxed out and I was still not happy.

I just hope the Bionic was designed with excellent audio in mind. I use mine in business and need great audio and notification capabilities.

So I'll be focuse on.....

  • If the Battery Cover will stay on :)
  • Ear Speaker Volume Capabilities
  • The Ring Tone & Notification Speaker Volume Capabilities
  • The Vibration Strength
  • The Speaker Volume Capabilities in Speaker Phone Mode
  • The Sound Quality for the Calling Party in speaker Phone
  • The Sound Quality in General

My dx has an ok speaker. Not anywhere as good as my D1. But im sure the Bionic will have no problems when it comes to hearing notifications, calls and music. After seeing the leaked pics, the Bionic wont have a slide off battery cover. It will be a lot like the D3 :)

My biggest complaint about my OG droid is the lag.
I know I could minimize it by cutting down on the apps I run but isn't that why You have a smart phone in the first place? I also will pay attention to battery life. I feel like I am kinda tied to a charger with my OG Droid, often having to not surf to make sure I can have enough battery left to get a phone call.

The unfortunate reality of having such a specific list of hardware requirements like this is how easily it is to not meet them, and the high chance of having to wait a very long time for a device that incorporates every one. Not that I disagree with this list in any way, as I'm sure everyone hopes for things like these, I just feel a lot of manufacturers are so focused on cranking out as many phones as they can that they often times forget the simple things.

Moto has done everything, BUT crank out this phone, so it better be perfect! Hey, I can dream, can't I?

I am just in hopes its better than the Dinc2 I tried. The D1 has a large speaker port on the back and it just does very well generally in comparison.
I spoke about audio quality and strength with a Motorola Tech on the OTA pre-release SOAK team and he said it comes up allot in their meetings.
I see the unofficial leak pics showing a small slot on the back.

Fingers crossed.

Here is a temporary link I'll have up for a little bit with a mp3 notification I like for incoming texts. I am a PI and like stealth and no one ever thinks its a phone. They wonder where the cricket is. A similar one comes on the iPhone. I made this one.

Play it and if you like Right Click and "save link as"....... Cricket

You didn't order the updated battery door that they offered for free for like two months? It fixed my OGD battery door issue.

I image it will be like the D3 door; rather plastic/flexible, but they say it is fine once snapped in place.

Fine until you snap it off in a fit of rage. :P I recall one reviewer talking about how scary it is to remove the battery cover on the D3.

The Droid speaker volume is out of hand loud for a phone. It's like a small boom box. I've also done lots of volume comparisons with other phones both at Verizon and with phones that some friends own. In terms of volume, the Droid puts them all to shame. Though, I had the Samsung Charge for 13 days and I feel the speaker audio quality to be slightly better albeit not louder.

Also, forgive me for assuming but it sounds like you are saying that the speaker on the OG Droid is the size of the entire grill mesh. It's actually only less than 1/2 an inch long. You can check by carefully running your fingernail across the whole back. You'll notice that it will be solid, as you move closer inward you will feel the grill give and sink a bit, and that's where the actual speaker is. Again, be careful if you try this because you can bend the grill.

Thanks,

I guess I must be spoiled then. And that may just clear things up for me I guess.
When I was comparing it to all the phones in the Verizon store all the reps were giving me the deer in the head lights look as I went from phone to phone.
I know we talk about how they act but I bet they get all kinds of types in there they can talk about as well.
I see what you mean about the D1 speaker.

So maybe the D1 audio performance is higher than the industry standard. I hope they learned from the Atrix muffled output to the listening party. I have two friends with Atrix phones that call me and its terrible. I complain and told them they should exchange but they are not like us forum users being all into the device and such. So I just keep saying "Huh, Say that again, What was that?"

We shall see........

Man, on a completely different note... when I worked for T-Mobile back in '04 I had an unlocked and hacked Cingular V400 and after some tweaks that ringer was EXTREMELY LOUD. I had dropped some Mp3s on there to use as ringers and I was just astounded how loud and clear the external speaker was. Sadly, I don't think I'll ever have that ridiculous amount of sound out of a phone's speaker again.

My fingers are crossed. When it releases I'll be in a Costco with my D1 if they get them to see. I'll most likely get it anyway (after forum reviews) but I hope they do a good job.
