What info is in your GMail alerts?

I hope this hasn't been addressed yet, searching for it yields a broad range of posts. I seem to recall someone mentioning that within their gmail alert on the drop down it showed the subject and/or senders email address. When I get email the alert only contains my email address...and I already know who I am so that's kind of a waste.

Any tips?
