What is a cursive L a notification for?

Welcome to the forums. Could you give us more details? What device do you have? Where are you seeing this notification? Left or right side on the status bar? Can't you get more information if you expand the notification shade?

It's on the left side of notification bar. It's not on my phone so I don't know about the notification shade.

Thanks for registering. Tell the owner to swipe down from the status and see the notification related to that icon. For more details you can long press that notification and the select 'app info'.

Are you sure it's not a British Pound symbol? That would probably indicate some sort of pay app.

it doesn't have the line in the middle, although it does resemble it. It's a cursive capital L. I've googled and googled.

Maybe get a screen shot of the notification bar, then pull it down and get another one, and post them, so we can see what's happening. (Or have her do them and email them to you so you can post them.) We're guessing at something we can't see. (If there's a notification for that icon, long pressing it should allow her to see information about the app - then she'll know.)
