What is heavy shadow mean in a galaxy Note 8 description?

Welcome to Android Central! They might be talking about screen burn-in.
 
If it's a used phone, that's probably it. If it doesn't annoy you to see the launcher (UI) when you;re running an app, use the burn-in to get the price way down. (Check what a Note 8 screen replacement costs in your area and try to get it discounted by close to that.) If the idea bothers you, stay away from it. There are plenty of used Note 8s available, without burn-in, for around $200 (so the value of one that needs a new screen is probably in the $50-$100 range).
 
Since they're saying "heavy shadow," I'd bet it's really bad. People will always try to downplay defects when selling something, so this means there's just no denying it.
