lol dont waste my time with useless comments u aint no dam help..... one is better or more usefull for saving batt life ...... u cant help get out of this forum !!!!

While not the answer you were hoping for, IMHO the advice was honestly given, and while not everyone would agree, there is a substantial number of users who would.

In and of itself, a process being in memory doesn't use battery or slow down your phone. Lots of stuff is loaded in memory but just sitting there, and will be swapped out if memory space is needed by something else. It's only if the process becomes active and wants to use GPS/network/CPU that you'll notice a difference.

If you have some process running and consuming resources inappropriately a better approach than using a task killer would be to check your settings, etc, to tell that program/service to stay idle longer or not update at all. If the program doesn't have settings like that, delete it.

gChat constantly polling for connections? Logoff. Facebook updating all the time - set the update interval longer or (OMG!) delete the account off your phone. Widgets? Delete the ones that you aren't willing to wait for while they update.

Using a task killer is basically fighting the system. You kill something and the system may just try to reload it. You also run the risk of killing something that is actually doing something you want.

IMHO, YMMV.

Advanced task killer. Has a widget to kill off any thing not excluded from the death list. Works wonders on my evo

No need for a task killer. I was in the task killer camp from back when I got my Hero back in November. Naturally when I got my Evo I installed it. But after some research I started to believe it was useless. The only time I use it is when I first boot the phone up. Outside of that i never use it anymore. I've seen absolutely NO change in battery life at all.

you CAN see the running apps, same as ATK. go into the phone settings, apps, manage apps, then press the MENU button, FILTER, SHOW RUNNING APPS. there you will see all apps currently running on your phone.

no worries, 2.2 makes this easier and shows different tabs with actual running apps.

lol yea he has me beat with 853 but dont u think a guy with that many post should be givin better advice then ........"neither. just let it go" ???
the "tone" may have been a little harsh but the advice was still good. task killers are unnecessary except for troubleshooting to determine if you have bad apps

I use the ATK (Advanced Task Killer), but not for battery life. I've used it since launch day (also came from a HERO), but I don't notice any difference in battery life. I wish I did. I get decent battery life though, already (actually *improved* recently when I decided to leave GPS and WIFI on...craziest thing, but that's for another post).
.
Even without the battery improvement from ATK, I keep it installed for one reason...to kill the occasional program that doesn't exit properly. Most apps are well coded, but we do get the occasional one that doesn't actually die when you exit (mostly my daughters' puzzle games). For some reason these kids games will keep running in the background even after exiting. How do I know? They continue to play their obnoxious "music" even after the game is exited and we are back at the main screen. I can't get it to stop. Even going back into the game and and trying to get it to quit doesn't work. It just sticks around. (I'd delete them, by my 3 and 5 year old absolutely love the puzzles. Go figure). Hence my acceptance of the need for an ATK.

But to reiterate, I see no real battery difference overall. But it does come in handy as an insurance policy against poorly coded games.

My two cents...if it helps. Even if I still have under 50 posts. :-P
