What is going to be the best (and safest) way to backup the Thunderbolt?

Ok, since the thunderbolt will be the beginning of my android experience, one of the first things I want to do is backup the device in as pristine of condition I can the original layout. I'm not planning on rooting the device (at least not at first) -- but I *do* want the capability of restoring to original the full device to protect against "screwing something up". (Besides, it seems like the right thing to do).

So, specifically talking about the upcoming thunderbolt -- what will be the best way to make a full system backup? What tools do I need, and can I do this with the stock load without having to root/un-root crack the bootloader or anything else that would be questionable in the warranty dept....

Thanks

HTCsense.com has some back up features, and will be implemented with the Thunderbolt.

I have lookout, it is a free app that lets you back up your phone and if you report it stolen you can activate an alarm and it locks your phone

lookout or HTCsnese will do just fine but personally I would use Lookout.

check out mylookout.com

Those look great for backing up data -- but I'm more looking for something that'll backup the entire thing -- apps, data, etc. I don't care if the backup is locked to the device's hardware ID such that it won't work anywhere else (that's fine by me), I just want to be able to restore even if the whole device gets hard-formatted. I've been a victim of "murphy's law" way too many times to not believe I may need this.

Read up about MyBackupPro. However, based on what you're wanting, a rooted TBolt with Clockwork or Recovery and the ability to make nand backups / restores is what you'll really want.

Backup... I can buy a new Android device, sign into my Google email and within minutes have all my Contacts, Calendar, Email, and all Android apps from my current device on that new device... Minutes!!! No backup is needed.

I totally forgot about MyBackupPro! it works on sense and saves every single thing including homescreen order ad call log.

The only thing it will not restore is something like my data from my Password app... which I backup on my SD card and then move a copy to my PC every month or so.

It seems like you want a full system restore, and unfortunately the only way to do that is the rooting methods rigorx described. I want to do a complete restore, so you can guess what I'll be doing B)

MyBackupPro is good if you're not rooted... Titanium Backup Pro if you are rooted. Everything else like email, contacts, calenders and apps is backed up to Google... so don't worry about that. Then all you need to do is a factory reset and you are back to a clean phone. As soon as you register your Gmail address when setting up the phone everything will sync back from Google. The only way to do a complete backup of the entire phone is to be rooted.
For transferring contacts/calendars from Blackberry to Google, this will help you out:http://www.androidcentral.com/jumping-blackberry-android-heres-what-you-need-know
You should set up the Google sync on your Berry now and sync it to your Gmail address on your computer while the phone still has a data connection to it. Then once you get your Android device it will sync from the computer to the phone and you'll be all set to go.
