what is rss?

Like what is it? What does it do? etc. I've seen several post mentioning it but cannot figure out what it actually is.

"Really Simple Syndication"

Its a text file generated from an online posting, that can be read by an app.

• Washington Post creates a simple .xml file of their online version of the front page.
• They place a link to this text file on the internet.
• An RSS reader can download that .xml file, and recreate the front page of the Washington Post (complete or in part, depending on how the feed was written) on your Computer or phone.
