My Dad is basically forced to upgrade his Samsung J7 with 15 gigs of storage, it can't handle app upgrades. I have a S23 FE incoming(tomorrow hopefully) to replace it and an adapter that came with a battery pack I've had. If I connect the phones would that work with Smart Switch or is the J7 too old? Maybe Bluetooth ? or start over might be best

Sidenote: If anyone's looking for a new phone in the $200 range on Verizon, if your with Verizon this deal is pretty good. S23 FE , no trade in, no upgrade to service/plan, you have to pay the tax on full price($40ish) and upgrade charge($35). $5 a month for 36 months($180) once you add it to cart. $255 for a S23 FE and bind to Verizon 3 more years

One thing about upgrading devices with big version differences is the types of things that can and cannot be transferred. You should be able to keep the basics, call log, messages, media, and all apps that have an updated version compatible to the new device. You'll probably lose all of the settings, backgrounds and ringtones.

There are wireless ways to perform the update, and I would imagine the corded option would work too, even with an adaptor.

I was mainly worried about Contacts since a Business is run using it. I got it to work eventually. I had to delete a bunch of stuff load Smart Switch onto it . Smart Switch seemed to keep freezing at 76%. So on the 4th try I left it for about 2 hours and came home to see it went through.
