What is the effect of wiping the cache and app data on the Google app?

I'm fed up of waiting for Google Assistant to come to my S7 Edge in the UK I found an old thread on here which said that if I changed the phone language to US English and wiped the Google data and cache I could get Google Assistant. Before II try this I wanted to know what the effect would be if I wiped the data as I don't want to do anything drastic. Also, how do I wipe data and cache?

it's similar to uninstalling and reinstalling the app again, it's not harmful and just will reset the app.

I was worried it would wipe my Google contacts or passwords etc?

Great, I wiped them both having set US English as the language and Google Assistant is now available. Having fun playing! Thanks for the help.
