What is the point of the edge on the Galaxy S6 Edge?

It looks good, but so far it only seems to have a clock appear for about 10 seconds on swiping. Anyone have some practical use cases for the edge screen when in edge mode? How can I get the most out of it?

It does not have much functionality and is mostly for looks. When the phone is awake and unlocked you can have your top 5 contacts on it. When it is locked or asleep you can wake the edge panel up and see different news, clock and weather info. If you want functionality with an edge then you will want the note edge. I have both and I love both but for a work phone I use the note edge and for looks and picture taking the s6 edge.

I would just like to know how the "swipe" works. Mine only displays a fraction of the time. I've tried all different types of swipe methods. From left-to-right...right-to-left...center-right-left...right-left-right-left...etc., etc. Is there a trick to getting it to turn on everytime?

I like it for the "cool" factor as I show my daughter how much better it is than her iPhone 6. However...now I'm just embarrassed because it doesn't work most of the time. She enjoyed turning hers on and off several times, as I kept swiping for something to happen.

Looks cool, and you can have an always on clock for 12 hours a day... No idea why it's restricted to 12 hours... Really dumb.

To get the edge panel while locked swipe up then down (with phone vertical) on the side you have the edge panel set to. Works every time for me. You can do it with the phone horizontally as well obviously, just easier to explain that way

I've also installed an app called Apps Bar that lets you use the edge as a shortcut for favorite apps.

At the moment there is only one point of the edge : Having the sexiest looking phone on the market.

In due time however there will be more and dare i say better functionality of the edges.

Stay tuned.
