If the pc does not need correct drivers (download Samsung Kies pc program), as soon as you plug in the usb to pc, a usb icon and message appears on the phone notification screen saying "connected as MTP device" or PTP device.
Pull down the shade to change.
Media Transfer Protocol is best, Photo Transfer Protocol for photos only.

You should then see it as a device. The DCIM folder contains photos / videos.

You may prefer using Kies to transfer / sync and make full backups.
