What Is This Icon?

Just suddenly appeared in between the Bluetooth and volume icons with no indication of what it's for. What am I missing?

Many thanks. Any idea how/why it would have turned on? I have the icon hidden, so I'm pretty sure I couldn't have accidentally tapped it.
