What Is Wrong with my Galaxy Note 3

Ive been using this galaxy note 3 for a year already and Its been 2 consistent weeks that I've been facing this problem.

Ive tried changing usb cables, changing charging switches etc, but i still get the same issue. Ive dropped my phone at least 3 times, no major damages except for a slight expansion where air entered at the bottom left corner of the phone. I hightly doubt that's the catalyst as That had been present for almost 7 months already. didn't give me any issues.

When I charge my phone, the led flashes, then after maybe 40 seconds it stops charging and then recharges. The cycle carries on and its surprisingly bad today, i can't seem to get past 20% of battery life and at time it depletes. When the phone is turned off, it charges but seem to face the same problem.

The charging is extremely inconsistent and It is rather annoying. I will not be able to afford another phone of any sort so my only hope is finding a way to solve this issue.

Any idea on what is causing this?

Welcome to Android Central! The two things I would wonder about are (1) a failing battery--have you tried a new one?-and (2) water damage--even though you might not have dunked the phone into water, the break in integrity that you describe might allow moisture into the phone, which can then condense and cause damage.

Your battery is bad. The hole you mentioned wouldn't do anything as the phone isn't air tight. The LED usually flashes when there is an issue charging or the battery level is so low that the phone needs to charge up to a certain point before the device is usable again. Try another battery as you can get them on Amazon for like $10 for Samsung ones. That's only if your carrier or Samsung won't send you one under warranty.
