What is wrong with my LG G3?

Hi, I have a LG G3 and today I left my phone in the car for about 20 minutes and when I came back and checked it the screen slowly went dark and looked as if it was deteriorating. Ever since it has kept doing that and it won't stay on. The phone was not in the sun and I have taken out the battery and tried everything. What is wrong with my phone? How can I fix it?

I have had my phone for about a year and a half, I have dropped it many times but it has never cracked and it was dropped in water but recovered quickly. After I posted my question my phone seemed to be working and so I turned it on, after a few seconds it went out and has continued to do this ever since. When I took the battery out the screen stayed on and when I looked in the back of my phone I saw a scratch where light was coming through where the battery was. I don't know how the scratch would have got there.

How long have you had your G3? Any recent drops or any other kind of damage to the screen? What about apps - have you installed any new apps (i.e., launchers, wallpaper apps, any apps that have access to your settings/display) that could be causing this? Maybe try booting your phone in Safe Mode and see if the problem persists.

Also, you can contact LG customer support on their website. I contacted them myself when my LG G3 was having issues, and a representative responded to me the next morning. Keep in mind that they may suggest you send it out; and in that case, maybe take it to your local carrier and ask if that is worth your while. It would depend on the severity of the issue. Keep us in the loop!

If you've dropped your phone and also dropped it in water, I suspect that those instances could have taken a toll on the hardware or software. How long ago had you dropped it in water?

I'm not sure what your carrier's policy is on water damage, but I know Rogers doesn't like it... And so it might be in your best interest to see what your carrier/LG suggests. If they suspect that water damage is the culprit, you may be better off buying a new device or grabbing a new G3; as it may cost you less money to buy a new phone than to fix this one, unfortunately.

This is a very well known issue. There are two main solutions:

1. the paper trick - tape a piece of paper at the phone's back, left to the power button and beneath the IR sensor
2. put it in an over at about 180 degrees celcius for 10 minutes.
