What is your screen brightness settings ?

This would be very helpful if true. Are you sure you aren't just toggling it back to manual at that point? How do you know it's still on Auto? Can you describe in detail what you see?

It didn't work that way on the sprint version.

On the notification bar I simply select auto and then move the slider. Here is a screen shot of my auto setting with an adjustment made.

Have you tried going to settings, display and then brightness and trying it that way? If that doesn't work then I don't have any other ideas

It's probably all US version phones. I'm on T-Mobile and don't have that feature.
