What non-Gemalto SIM cards work with the Moto G (4G LTE)?

A

AC Question

I purchased an unlocked Moto G that has no SIM card and cannot be activated with Verizon, Sprint or AT&T. I signed up for Ting's new 4G LTE service, but found out their SIM cards (like most in the world) are manufactured by Gemalto, which we now know have been hacked and their private signing keys cannot be trusted. I'm looking to buy a SIM card from a different manufacturer, but don't know if such a card will work on this phone. Would like to hear from the experts how to get a non-Gemalto SIM card and sign up with Ting, Cricket, T-Mobile, Straight Talk or any other carrier that allows customers to BYOD on their networks.

There's no way for the end-user to know which batch of cards from a carrier was manufactured by which manufacturer. Even the store personnel wouldn't know. All manufacturers put the same printing on the card for a given carrier. You'd need a list of card numbers from Gemalto so you could go through all the cards and find one not made by them. (Since they make most of the cards used in the world, your chances of finding one made by another manufacturer are probably worse than finding a particular needle in a needlestack.)
