I know, I know, GS4 vs HTC One threads are abundant but I need to know which to get. My iPhone contract ends this month, and I can't decide what to get. As a high school student, I need something with a great browser (although that's always near the bottom of my list), a great keyboard, an excellent camera, and good messaging abilities. Screen size, build, and features are also important.

I know the One has a great build, ok camera, and awesome speakers. However, the GS4 seems like it will dominate just as the GS3 did, and with some features being targeted to sharing with friends, it could become a nice toy. So, what phone do you think will better suit my needs.

I say GS4. You really can't go wrong with that choice.

HTC One. But I would go and look at both devices to see which one you feel like fits your needs more so that way you have a better feel for each device. Samsung really starting to cookie cutter things in that their devices are going to look and feel about the same where HTC to me always had a better feel and design to them. Either way they are both good devices but in the end go with what you want.

Not being funny here, but with messaging and keyboard on your list have you considered the BlackBerry Z10?

My 2c - havent tried the S4, but the One is a truly amazing phone - a sentiment which appears to be almost universally shared.

If it's a choice between the S4 and the One you'll probably be happy with either though - both are probably comparable for what you want. Samsung has the more powerfully camera - score one to Samsung - but if you take real life low light photos for social media etc then the One camera is better - score one to HTC.

Again just personal experience with the One alone, but I've been very impressed with the stock keyboard, something that's been an unexpected and pleasant surprise. Some may argue that the One is better for social media as you can integrate it into blinkfeed, but you might just end up seeing lots of posts by 'friends' you couldn't really care less about, so I'd not really factor that in much if I were you.

Good luck and enjoy whatever you decide to go with!

What are the features targeted for social use you are thinking about?

Have you even played with a Z10? That is not a phone any high schooler would want. Two people will buy that phone; Blackberry diehards and people who's employer are blackberry diehards.

That said, do you want to blend in and have what all the cool kids have with the most cases and what not, or do you want something stylish and unique? S4 if you are in the first camp One if you are in the second. Do you want lots of wiz bang features that will wow your friends but you will (almost) never use or do you want a better looking interface with less features, but features you will actually use? S4 if you're in the first camp One if you're in the second. Do you want a phone that is thin and light or a phone that feels well built and premium? S4 for the first camp, One for the second. Do you want a bigger, dimmer screen (hard to use out doors) with colors that pop (but aren't true to life) or do you want a phone with a smaller, brighter screen and accurate colors (that seem less vibrant)? S4, One. Do you want a camera that is excellent in great light and poor in poor light or a camera that is one notch below excellent in good like and excellent in poor light? S4, One.

Answer these questions and see if you spot a trend.

One I can think of that is admittedly cool is the ability to have multiple (up to 8) phones play the same song in unison to make the song sound better. Though, with the One, the speakers are so good you don't need that feature as much.

I'm also a high school student that is asking the same question. This one is a really great comparison! I've just ordered the HTC One, but if I'm not feeling it, I'll switch to the S4.
I don't mind the varying displays of the two phones, or some of their extra features (I'll just turn off air gesture). The S4 does have Multi-window and a faster browser, from what I've seen, but I've also heard that it lags while the One rarely does so. Both have great cameras so I've decided that, no matter which I pick, I'll get good results with either of them.
Nonetheless, I'm just seeking one that has greater overall speed (little to no lag), faster browser performance (with Flash support on respective STOCK browser), smoother-running apps, and is more convenient and useful for a high school student. Care to share your opinions for me?

Honestly, I was, at one point, crazy with the Z10, however once the One and the S4 were released, I changed my tune.

If anyone has an S4, have you ever had any lag? I hear about reports of CRAZY lag, such as up to eight or nine seconds before response.

with all those things you listed, Nokia Lumia 920 (or the new 928) come to mind. Amazing camera, even in low light, check out some shots, the keyboard is the by far the best on any device I've ever used, build quality on Nokia's are always great, good screen size, not huge or small, also windows phone is great for sharing, bu t if you're stuck on Android i'd go with the HTC One, I have it and its absolutely beautiful.

I have the HTC ONE, and my friend got the S4, and while i was messing with their phone for a few i noticed a lag, while on the one i didnt really notice any lag at all.

And in my opinion if you are more about productivity, like multi use of apps or you just know you have features ( like SD card ) just in case you need them, go for the S4.
If you are more about media/content ( music, news, movies, social, etc ), go for the One. I acutally use BlinkFeed when im just bored, and the speakers are better than the iPhone ( i tested with a friend of mine ).
