What phone has the best resale value?

I'm planning on jumping from Verizon to AT&T since they're cheaper and have about the same coverage where I live and there are a wider range of unlocked phones available for them. Problem is, their deal where they pay off your ETFs/device payment plans require you to buy one of their phones. Since AT&T is even worse with updates than Verizon, have just as much bloatware, and have to be fully paid off in order to unlock them, I say no thank you to their crap carrier phones. My way around this is to immediately sell the phone that I buy from them, only powering it on to activate the sim, which I'll put in an unlocked Xperia Z5 compact that I bought for this purpose.

So which phone that AT&T sells has the best resale value and can be sold the most easily? I want to maximize the amount of money I get back from the sale.

iPhone 6S or 6S Plus, depending on the level you want to invest. Read carefully about their policies processes for how long you have to use the device before they'll SIM unlock, etc.

Hmm, I'd thought it'd have been one of the S7's. I'll look further into it.

AT&T's unlock policy is just like T-Mobile's or Sprint's, with the caveat that they have to be fully paid off before they'll do it. Their ETF payment deal forces you to buy a device from them on their monthly payment plan, so they're basically locking down your phone. Icky icky.

Assassin Droid has a great point about the iPhone products. They will always sell well, especially the series he mentioned (6S /6 Plus). Apple seems to also be a product that people will buy, even if what they buy is not the most current device out there (ie, people will go out and buy the 5C and then you still have people who love their 4S - I have a friend who still uses his and won't upgrade).

If you want to go the Android route, I'd say a Samsung Note device would be a great option. People love phablets! But yeah, obviously all this depends on how much you are willing to spend.
