Android Central Question

I recently bought the S8 and got the Otterbox Defender case immediately because i heard they were the best protection. however the reviews on all the screen protectors i come across are bad. they either bump off or crack up. does anyone actually use this case with a protector that works great? i really dont want to leave my screen bare so id really like to know which protector i should get that will be fully compatible with the Otterbox defender case. thank you in advance.

As I told the Samsung rep at best buy. I won't buy your new s8 until you make a curved edge screen protector. It took nearly a year for the s7 for Zagg to get one to market. You lose about 1/3 inch of sensitivity all around with a flat glass protector.

With the Otterbox (if it has the screen protector) you don't need an additional screen protector. If you drop the phone on the screen, even with a tempered glass protector, you'll probably lose the screen. If you drop it screen-down on a pebble, you'll definitely loose the screen. (Tempered glass is no harder than the Gorilla Glass on the screen.) A plastic screen protector actually takes up a bit of shock (but, of course, isn't as scratch resistant as the screen itself). But the Otterbox keeps the screen off the ground if the phone is dropped screen-down, and it's shock-absorbent, so that's the best way to go. (After 3 years of abusing 2 phones in Defender cases, there's not a scratch on anything, and nothing got knocked loose in either phone. No screen protector on either phone other than the Otterbox.)

Hi, it doesnt have the built in screen protector. i dont think Otterbox has the case with bulit in protector or i would have gotten that instead. my problem is that i just dont want a bare screen. no matter how good the screen is it doesnt hurt to have an added layer of protection. i know the phone itself has a great screen and the otterbox case has the lip to keep it off the surfaces but i still would like a screen on it. thanks for you response :)

Otterbox makes a few cases. One of the rugged ones has what I would call a screen cover more than a protector as you can slip it in and out of the case. Only Zagg has a curved glass protector. I've shattered 3 with no damage getting through to the phone. I've broken 1 Commuter Otterbox replaced under warranty with no phone damage.

I bought a glass screen protector off of Amazon and its worked great so far. I was going to go with plastic but decided to give this one a shot. It comes with a plastic piece that you put on the front of the phone so when you put the glass screen protector on it lines it up. I've used it with two different cases so far with no issues.
