What text/messaging app are you using?

Is anybody using the native LG app or something different? I was using Google Message but have been trying Textra. Just want something with a dark theme. Not sure I dig Textra yet.

I use Textra because I get absolutely no stutter/lag when I'm typing/sending texts. Then again, that was on my G4 and previous devices. Not sure if this V20's native messaging app fairs any better.

Textra here, too. Only had the V20 for a month, but I also used that there. Just can't stand most stock messaging apps lighting up the screen when you get a text.

i am sticking with the LG app. I'm on T-Mobile, and my son also has a LG. So we get the Advanced Messaging features

I use textra myself. I'd use android messages for the RCS but the only people I text either have iPhone or are on an incompatible network..

I use Signal Private Messenger, its encryption protocol has also been adopted by other services like WhatsApp, FB Messenger, and Allo. Of course most of my friends and family don't use Signal so that's more or less irrelevant (for encryption to be implemented both sender and receiver need to be using the same service - Signal-to-Signal, WhatsApp-to-WhatsApp, etc.).

I've tried signal too but since ios doesn't allow it to be the primary texting app it would be nearly impossible to get the wife to use and I use what's app for most messaging with the mother and dad is to "the only reason I have a smartphone is to check email at the job site" so that pretty much knocks out 3 of the 4 people I talk to.

So RCS only works if they are Android and on the same network? So my family and friends on Verizon could benefit if they all had Message or any RCS supported app?

I had to drop Google voice and hangouts. I loved texting from my computer. But with giggle voice integration being dropped from sprint, I went to hangouts. But I kept having issues with sending mms. Finally disconnected goggle voice integration and can send mms.

I now use Facebook messenger. Can send mms and no issues.

Gvoice has weird things you have to do is you want to continue usage such s buying a gvoice line for $30. Then forwarding your phone to that new number. Or you could port your number to Google voice and get a new carrier number. Then all sms, mms, and future rcs would pass through Google voice then forward to carrier. Just seems like too many points of failure.

Will change to a Google service again one day, just not today. And five years later, Google updated Gvoice but no love.

Even after RCS fully settles in and the carriers stop trying to make it exclusive?
That'll be a good while away. I am not holding my breath for it. Carriers promise things and then drag their feet.

Also I'd expect Textra to update theirs to work with it if that was that case. :).

Very true. I would assume that most major texting app will update to have RCS support within the next 6 months to a year.
