so i have been jumping from different forums to learn how to do certain things and how to spruce up my inspire and i am still stuck. i look at the screen shots of different inspires and feel like i am truly missing out on the android experience. now, i have not rooted my device. i have started to download apps that i think are compatible to the apps i had on the bb. i am trying to set the device up as close as possible. please help me to get the most out of my android experience. how important is htc sense?

apps that i used on bb frequently:

bbnotepad
weatherbug
smiley pack
fancy characters
ringtone remix
crackberry launcher
memo pad
task
radio companion
docs to go (edit, view, create)

i have found replacements for some of the other apps that i use. Any help is appreciated.

had inspire for a couple of months and still feel like its brand new

HTC Sense is kind of important if you stay stock on everything with the phone including the launcer. For me, i have changed over to the ADW Ex Launcher instead of using Sense.

IF you are going to stay using Sense as your home launcher, what it can do if you set up a HTC sense account is it can use the GPS settings on your phone to track it (if you let it and if you loose it). Change some settings from the computer that will reflect on the phone and even forward your calls to another phone number.

Theres alot to do with Sense. I would head over to htcsense.com to get full details on it. I dont use it myself.

AS far s those applications you listed, there are alot that can sub for those. Android also has Weatherbug and Docs to Go (i have both on mine). Plus there are alot of great ringtone applications such as Zedge (both wallpaper and ringtones), Myxer and Ringdroid.

For notes, alot of us use Evernotes. Great application. There is also the Android Central widget if you like to follow Android news. And you can also purchase the Tapatalk app to be able to easily post on the forums from your phone.

thanks for your reply. i will check out htcsense and see what it is about. i am not sure about rooting my phone since i am new to android. sound kinds of scary. i will check out the things you have mentioned. once again thanks.

It'll take time to learn to take advantage of the OS. Just try to do so gradually and when seeing the screenshot threads, ask users what widgets/apps/etc. that they're using. I don't believe you have to root to have a rich Android experience. Download Appbrain App Market and periodically browse the apps of the day and update your recommendations. This will help you find new apps, and give you ideas of what you might want to do. Also, try not to limit your imagination. If you think of something you want, imagine that there is a way to do it, because most likely with Android, there is. The customization is virtually limitless, so just take your time, and make changes along the way. Good luck :)

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure i can download appbrain. I cant download amazon app store. But i am trying to learn it. Just have to forget what i am used to. Thanks again

Appbrain is available on the Android Market. I have it on my non-rooted Inspire. To download the Amazon Appstore you have to "sideload" it. I have it as well on my device. There is a thread dedicated to the much beloved Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine and it contains most of the info you need to get the Appstore on your phone. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to post it and we all again will be glad to help you further. Happy hunting!

Here's the link to the appropriate thread for the SWM.
