What to expect with an International Sim

Going to UK with a Verizon MAXX HD and plan on getting a sim card there for phone and data. Giffgaff looks to be the choice.
What will the phone look like with a foreign sim in it? Will apps still be on the screen as they are now? I am mostly interested in the navigation ? will Google Maps look and act like it does here at home? How about voice commands?

The SIM is just going to allow the phone to work with another carrier, it isn't going to change how your phone acts or looks.
