What will be the cost of the next Nexus phone?

I'm in the market to get a new unlocked Android phone and the Nexus is currently being offered directly from Google at $350. I know that the next version of the Nexus phone is coming out soon, but I'm wondering: can we expect that version to arrive at that same price point?

Does anyone know if there is a any historical price data on this?

As far as I know there aren't even any concrete roomers about the next Nexus phone ...

Is Google even planing to release a new phone in the next six to eight months?

There's absolutely no way that Google can launch the next Nexus at $350, or even $399 (I'd flip if they did). With the small scale production runs they'll be making (the Nexus traditionally isn't the biggest seller ever), they just can't cut costs and get it down to those price points at the start.

We don't have a ton of prior info on this because there have only been 2 previous Nexus phones, only one of which sold directly by Google. The Nexus One sold at $549 if I recall correctly (directly from Google), and the unlocked T-Mobile version of the Nexus S sold for $529 via Best Buy at launch.

If Google is going to be aggressive, and considering the cost of the Nexus 7 they probably will be, we can hope for maybe $449... more likely in the $499 - $549 range based on their previous pricing. I think I'd be happy with that still, as it well undercuts the cost of most unlocked phones, which go for $600+ and when the Galaxy Nexus went on sale late last year, being offered through importers, people were paying $700+ for it. I paid $550 and that was after waiting until late January for the price to come down.

Only time will tell, and I surely hope that selling it directly in the Play Store at launch will help keep the prices down.

just bought the Nexus from the play store for $350 ($380 shipped)--just go ahead and get it.

i can't think of too many things that Google could improve on this phone. yes, a few things here or there--but unless they add support for expandable storage, i'm completely happy with this phone (esp over my previous phone, the HTC Thunderbolt & it's 40GB of storage)

& even if they did add expandable storage--this phone is definitely not going to be overshadowed by it. It's still a beast and it'll still be supported with ample specs to rock any ROM or app (NFC is awesome with NFC tags/Tasker)

I think google is trying to make phone cheaper and cut the carrier out.
That could be the reason why GN has become cheap recently... you might not get the phone for $350 right on launch date but might come down to 350. It might start at $450 or something.
still better deal considering cost of other phones.

I am in the same boat, my contract ends Sept 1st and I am ready to make the move to a no contract unlocked phone. I am really on the fence about getting the galaxy nexus or waiting for the next nexus. I really wish there was some rumors about the next one coming out, but I have found nothing. I know the minute I make the order the next one will be announced.

Google is done doing expandable storage. They may bump the size of the internal storage, but we don't see removable SDcards on a Nexus from here on out.

@Andrew: I want to get on T-Mobile's prepaid plan, specifically the $30 Monthly 4G plan, but I'm worried that conflicts with their "Low-Cost Cell Phone Plans".

I just wanted to inquire with you to see if you were in fact able to just sign up for their prepaid-plans on your Galaxy Nexus without a hitch?

Yes, you can buy the $0.99 SIM Activation Kit online, and when it arrives you can activate here any of the Monthly 4G plans you'd like. When selecting the $30 plan be sure to select the correct one as there are 2 different $30 plans, one of which is 1500min and 30MB of data, and the other is 100min and 5GB of data (which you want).

I can see where the confusion is, but remember that the Value Plans are completely different from Monthly 4G. Value Plans are 2-year contract postpaid service, whereas Monthly 4G is no-contract prepaid. Neither offer subsidies for devices and that's why they're both cheaper than regular 2-year plans. Value Plans offer roaming and full pospaid T-Mobile customer service, whereas Monthly 4G does not (no roaming and outsourced support).

The current Gnex was 700 bucks at launch!

Well, that price was severely inflated by the fact that people were buying it from importers who took their own markup. If they launch the new Nexus directly from the Play Store, it won't be $700 lol.

I'm wondering if there will be different prices for the different Nexi that were rumored today from NTT Docomo. I would love to get my hands on a Sony Nexus, it just sounds wonderful :-)
