What will happen when I've set someone route to voicemail but have my Voicemail turned off?

What will happen when i put someone in my (Google) contacts to route to voicemail but have no voicemail?

Will they just get told I'm unavailable, phone turned off or will it beep beep beep ect (what happens if I don't pick up the phone and someone calls me)

how do you say I haven't got a voicemail active but will it still stop I route to voicemail being able to call me? Without blocking them completely

Welcome to Android Central! It probably depends on the carrier, since voicemail is dependent on the carrier. On some if not most carriers, the caller would probably hear a recorded message saying that the number they're trying to call has not set up their voice mailbox, good-bye.
