What's a good wallpaper size?

By size I mean the space it will take up on the phone/SD card. I'm getting a phone with not much memory, and a 2G card comes with it. I have a bunch of wallpapers that are the right resolution, but they vary wildly in size (from 12.1KB to 298KB!). I just figured out how to reduce the size/space it takes up without affecting the quality (as far as I can tell), so I want to resize them to take up less space.

What's the best size? I mean, at some point it has to start reducing the quality, or I'd just make them all 1KB I guess. I'm not sure, I'm still just figuring out how my image editor works, so any help is welcome.

You can't really reduce the size, but its hard for wallpapers to fill up a 2 GB SD.

Well, I can reduce the size, and the first one I did I didn't notice any difference in quality, but I just did another, went from 250KB to 10KB, and there was a difference. So, not the magical solution I was thinking it was, but it should get the big ones down a bit.

Although, I thought 1000KB was 1G, so that worried me, but I think it's 1000KB is 1 MB, right? Then 1000MB is 1G.

So you're right, they don't take up nearly the space I thought they did! I guess the ideal size would just be however small I could make it without losing quality...
