What's in the future?

Hello everyone!

I'm a new owner of my Galaxy S4 and just a bit more experience with Android in general. I got the phone new with 4.4.2 installed. I've fell in love with this phone but there is some things that really stump me on it.

The main thing is the default apps. I constantly get notices where Samsung are discontinuing the service for music, video, etc. I prefer to use the stock apps that came with my phone in its original state but what can I do now? Will I be able to use them after the deadline? Is there a way to replace them with the ones from S5? Will the phone get an update to solve this? I hate getting something new and the stuff on it is discontinued. The nagging reminder that the services will end soon just cramp my entire experience of the phone. If anyone has any ideas, comments or solutions please let me know. Thanks for reading!

Welcome to the forums.

Will I be able to use them after the deadline?

Probably not. Samsung is discontinuing the service due to, as I recall, low use.

Is there a way to replace them with the ones from S5?

Sadly, no. Even though say the Music app is still the Music app on an S4 or S5, each app is signed to each device ROM. I tried pulling the Samsung Calendar app from my Samsung Tablet to put on my S3 and the S3 wouldn't install it.

Will the phone get an update to solve this?

An update, probably. Will it solve it? Probably not.

what can I do now?
I would ask what other users are using for the apps you need to replace. Take the music app for example: I use PowerAmp. very good music player. Has played every format I can throw at it. It is a paid app, but only a one time fee of $4, and worth every penny.

That's the thing. They aren't. The services mentioned are integrated with the default apps on the s4. From what I've seen of the s5, they are the same apps, but this integration has been removed. Like now, if I want to open a video file, even a local one at that, I get that notice every time I open the player, even without going to or using the service they offer.
