First of all dont be afraid to use this brilliant phone, only disable/turn off things that you really have no need for. People tend to disable Google Now, Location services, GPS, change sync in settings and also for individual apps, make sure no apps are running for no reason. In fact using WiFi rather than Mobile Data is better. The battery really isnt that bad, mine lasts me around 2 days and ive always been told im constantly on my phone.

I consider myself a moderate user (check Twitter feed and email throughout the day) and my N4 usually lasts from 7am to 10pm without a problem.
  • GPS enabled
  • Google Now enabled
  • Wifi enabled (for use at home and work)
Good luck!

I get approximately 14-18 hours of use out of my phone and I have GPS, auto-sync, Google Now, and a lot of other stuff enabled. I toggle bluetooth/ wi-fi when not needed, but that's it.

I disable apps I don't use: Google Currents, Magazines..

Also, how many items are you auto syncing w/ Google? I sync 4 items only! Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Email.

I turn off Location Reporting in Maps, keep bluetooth, gps, wifi off unless i'm using them, and I turn off syncing for apps I don't use (Currents, Play Movies, Play Magazines, News & Weather, etc).

I typically get 16 to 18 hours of battery life with 2 to 3 hours of screen time.

How do you disable sync for Play Movies and Play Magazines?

If you try to "uninstall" a bundled app, it will give you the option to disable it instead. Uninstall/disable apps by holding on the icon in the app browser and then dragging it to the suddenly red-colored area at the top of the screen.

As for power saving, shut off WiFi unless you really need it, Bluetooth unless you need it, and the biggie is Auto-Rotation of the screen. Also, you can turn off Near-Field Communications (NFC). Those are the biggies.

Not turning the screen on unnecessarily, and keeping for the brightness down as far as you can will do so much more for your battery than anything else you do.

How do you disable sync for Play Movies and Play Magazines?

Go to settings and go to the accounts>Google. You should see a green sync icon. Hit that and you'll see a check list of things that are syncing that are Google related. Just uncheck Movies and Magazines.
