i am using go messenger now and went back to stock for a few days i know there are pros and cons of all sms message apps but really whats the best all around sms app to use with GN. i want to stick with one and only.

Personally I love GoSMS with the ICS minimal skin. Looks awesome and works great. I used the default one for a while but I like having a popup on the screen as well as being able to change the look of it. Also, used Handcent SMS but the customization wasn't as good as GoSMS and it seemed to lag a lot. So I would say that if you want to go the route of a 3rd party SMS program, I think GoSMS is the best bet.

I've tried go sms and handcent, I prefer handcent.
The customizations are the same imo. They both can assign individual tones, background images, icons, fonts, and led notification colors.
Go sms can do its own backups which is a plus, but I noticed go sms has an issue with the landscape background image.
There is also sms popup and chomp, neither of which I have tried.

Go SMS for me. I tried stock and Handcent, but both were seriously lacking even though I liked Handcent on my OG.

I've been using the stock app since I got my GN. Depends on what you're looking to get out of the SMS app.

I'm using GoSms. I had to stray for a while because the private box wasn't working with 4.0.3 AOSP builds. I had to use handscent for a while and it was mediocre. GoSms is much faster to open and more responsive to touch. You don't notice it unless you try GoSms. I'm glad they updated it.

+1. My thoughts exactly.

I have used ChompSMS since my G1 days. I tried Handcent way back in the early days of Android but fell in love with Chomp once i tried it.

I used Handcent for a very long time before discovering Go SMS. With that said, once I tried Go SMS there was no looking back. It's quicker, more ability to customize, etc.

Thief of avatar!

Anyway, stock all the way. They actually made a nice messaging app this time!

I can't live w/ out google voice so that's the best app in my view. I have a hard time remembering what my verizon phone number even is.

And what does does that have to do with SMS Messengers??

I like the sun. It makes me feel warm...

Trololol.

I guess it means it doesn't matter what program as long as it has google voice function? Just spit balling.

Srsly, he's saying that he uses Google voice so anytime he gets a text it comes up there. That's his interface of choice.

Think a little before you speak.

I have a love hate relationship with Go applications. They are often memory HOGS and while some of their updates do address issues- weekly updates are a bit out of control. That said, I love the popup feature, and custom notification icons and the ICS theme I have I like much more than stock. I don't use 1/2 of the features, and I still can't seem to stay away from Go SMS, but I've dumped the launcher. IF stock offered a popup window and had a dark (not jet black like some of the flashables) theme similar to the ICS Menus, and had message backup to internal memory or gmail, I'd stick with stock.

my friend urged me to get kakao talk for sms messages. since i was from iphone i had no idea what it was but it works great..

STOCK SMS--som negatives are they fixed by another app:
-the key board doesn't prmitt me to drop down to the next line eg create a new paragraph
-rarely the text app will disappear and i will have to re-enter the text app from the home page to continue-
very strange the way it happens. sometimes it willl only happen once, other times it will happen twice

thanks for any suggestions. i am new to android
