What's the most efficient way to get back up to speed after wipe?

I got my Rezound back in March, unlocked and rooted it right away just to get rid of the stupid Verizon Backup commercial that played on my computer every time I plugged the phone in. That's so freakin' rude!

Anyway, I finally got tired of waiting for the ICS OTA, and had some free time on my hands yesterday, so I finally got ambitious and decided to do some ROMming. I put AOKP build 25 on my old Dinc just to give it a new lease on life (my daughter uses it mostly as a game platform), and CleanROM 4.5 Standard on my Rezound.

After doing that, which went very well and easy btw, I spent several hours getting both droids back "up to speed" with all my favorite apps installed, and setting up the configurations for email and SMS and Facebook and Twitter and and and and.... holy crap! That was WAY more work than flashing the phones!

So, my question is for those of you who flash ROMs all the time. What do you do to make it easy on yourself to get your phones tweaked just the way you like them after a wipe/flashing of a new ROM?

Titanium Backup? Something else? What's your procedure?

A lot of people use Titanium Backup or Mybackup Pro. I personally don't. I setup my apps every time I flash a new ROM. It's a pain but it also makes me a bit more picky about the ROMs I run and apps I keep.

Another one for Titanium Backup.

Yep, Titanium Backup. Even the free version has a batch mode so restoring is easy. To find the back mode go into TB, tap the "Backup/Restore" tab, then at the top right corner of the screen you'll see a checkmark...tap that then select the batch mode you want to use.

Here's my rundown for a ROM flash. Make a batch backup of the "User apps" with Titanium. Then I make a nandroid backup. Flash the ROM. I personally like to skip all the set up BS from HTC/Verizon on the first boot up and do things as I like. After I get the basics back up and running like my Google account and Exchange I then go into the market and download Titanium. It will find the backups it made previously and you can then do a batch restore of user apps. It will then take you to a screen where you can select which ones you want to restore. Let 'er rip and you'll be back to "normal" in no time.

Start to finish takes about 45-1 hour (that includes flashing the ROM)

I backup with Amon Ra, restore app afterwards, never a prob. But only good if you go GB-GB, ICS-ICS etc.

Oh and I NEVER do a full wipe. I wipe dalvik and cache only. Will continue unless it becomes a prob.

How do you restore apps from Amon Ra? Think I missed something here...Amon Ra allows you to make the Nandroid back up but Titanium allows you back up and restore individual apps. The nandroid is a system wide backup.

You're joking right? Please say yes.

If you're jumping to a different ROM, even going from stock to CleanROM you're going to have to do a complete wipe. You're asking from problems if you don't...and that's if you can even get the thing to boot.

Well, did CleanROM 1.5 to CleanROM 1.7 and rockin. Not joking, not lying. No problems since that, that anyone else hasn't reported. 4G drops sometimes to 3G and have to reboot to get it back. But it boots fine. System restore left the 1.7 ROM and system/apps back. Didn't have to set up anything.

Sorry Wanda. It just works(worked). Maybe I just got lucky.......

EDIT: Actually thinking about it, not sure I did a full system restore. But restored with AR, for sure.

Right, but you're going from Clean ROM to Clean ROM not changing ROM's (read different ROM's from different dev's). If you were to go to, for example, to Nils' Business ICS Sense, you'd definitely want to do a FULL wipe.

Most dev's recommend a full wipe even between their updates to the point that some dev's will have their script set up to wipe it for you even if you don't.

If it's working for you I say go with it, just be aware should you want to change dev's.

The only way that would work is if you either only backed up /data OR only restored /data. If you did a full restore, you would obviously go back to the old version of your ROM.

Scott recommends a full wipe in before flashing any of his ROMs and even goes so far as to mention it in the install instructions. If you have issues and didn't wipe, see his instructions lol.

I know a lot of people see this as a "pain" but honestly I've done it every time throughout my ROM'ing career and wouldn't do it any other way. Why potentially give yourself issues over a few ringtone settings that can be restored with Titanium..??

I think you're right, after wiping dalvik and cache, then flashing his 1.7 I did just do data restore, not a full one. Been awhile since I did it so was just not remembering correctly. But I didn't do a full wipe, and I know Scott instructions say to do it. But like mentioned, I don't have any issues that haven't been reported by others on different ROMS, OS's etc.

Everything just works and, also like mentioned, maybe I got lucky. There were quite a few other things besides ringtone settings of concern.

And EVERYTHING came back just as I had it before flashing from 1.5 to 1.7. Perhaps the differences between the two ROM's was negligible.

Yep I don't think I would have tried it even with different ROM, and think the reason I did was because I read out here somewhere that someone else tried it with good results. But with GB to ICS or Dev1 to Dev2 type of changes, I would definitely do full wipe.

Not suggesting that anyone else try this either, unless they are ready to deal with any problems. I was at that time and didn't really expect it to work so flawlessly. But it did, and I'm happy and living with GBE 1.7 with no regrets. When my Nexus 7 ships with JB, I'll root that and continue on with ROM's, fixes, sideloads whatever and start playing again. Easier with that one because if it gets hosed up it only affects my playtime, not my worktime, LOL.
