What's the point of the Google search bar?

As in the screenshot, I have the Google search bar on my S8+ home screen. However, I can't execute a search from within the bar. As soon as I tap the bar to type, the Google site opens in my Firefox browser. So, why would I want the seach bar instead of just using the standard Google icon to initiate a search?

Do you have the Google app installed? It should open the Google app instead of your browser (it won't just let you type in the box and then search, though). It's just a shortcut to the app, basically. You can, however, just tap the microphone and start a search by voice without saying OK Google.
