Whatsapp notifications only when app is launched

Guys , my whatsapp notifications never show up if mobile is not touched for about 10 min. only when i launch the application after, all the notifications show up. they keep on showing until ,again , mobile is left for 10 or more minutes.
i have tried almost all the settings etc. please guide.

Well sort off.
maybe i turned a service off or something , that is why it did that
So i did factory reset and it started working.

hello I solved putting WhatsApp app as protected, then going to save battery app with excessive consumption in the background, and click on WhatsApp and menu opens. I activated the buttons activation system and continues running after shutdown, and I cleared reminder intense consumption.
