You talking for lock screen?

Under settings - apps & notifications - WhatsApp - Notifications you can change 'Behaviour' for your personal and group chats. These are the different options.

When I was still using my S10+, WhatsAPP would never light up my lock screen like other apps when I received a new message. All I would get is the tone. If I tapped the screen to bring up the lock screen, I would see the message, but it wouldn't light up on it's own.

I also had the same issue if I was running Google Messages instead of Samsung messages. GM wouldn't light up the lock screen when I got a new text.

Now that I have been using the OnePlus 7 Pro, everything works great, the way it should be.

Have you already checked WhatsApp own settings? Open WhatsApp, three dots top right, settings, notifications and make sure that popup is not selected for messages and groups.
