When I try to place an app in Nova launcher, why does it open instead?

When I try to place an app in nova launcher it opens instead.

I installed nova launcher on my Xperia Z3 compact and everytime I try to place an app somewhere on the screen by dragging it there and letting go it opens and the icon isn't there when I close the app.

Maybe the desktop is locked. Go to Nova settings - desktop - scroll down and make sure that the "lock desktop" option is off.
