When taking a photo using fb messenger the camera icon missing

Hi when I use fb .messenger and need to take a picture to send, the screen seems to be missing about 1cm off the bottom and I cannot see the icons like reverse camera icon etc. If this isn't annoying enough, if I want to type text on the picture I've just taken, I press the text button on the top and the keyboard pops up for like a split second then disappears and leaves the colours? The keyboard just wont stay on. The squiggle and emoticon icons work fine. This only happens when using fb messenger though?
