when typing friends name to dial,does not find them

Lets say im in the phone section trying to call Sam. I type the corresponding numbers on the keypad to his name and it does not find him or anyone else...just random contacts. I know these ppl are in my contact list. Help.

When you're in the phone tab - the dial pad is showing - you're doing a phone number search. If you want to do a name search, tap the Contacts tab and type the name into the Search box.

When did they change this? I did this with my s3 and it worked just fine.

I am now noticing it finds some friends but not others. I need to figure this out.

Incorrect. Mine works just fine as per what op is searching for. Only thing I can think of is that particular contact wasn't saved to Google, only to phone? Not sure if that's it but I've run into that problem in the past. When I want to dial a contact I search at the keypad and it works just like it always has for me on Android. Only phone I've ever had to actually go to the contacts and search for who I'm trying to dial was the iPhone. The s6 works just fine.
