When Will Off-Contract Prices Likely Drop?

I'm at least 7 months away from being about to get a cheap upgrade and don't really want to try and muscle an early upgrade in exchange for another contract extension, so if I want a GS2ET4GWTFBBQ I'm looking at dropping five bills or waiting for the eventual price drop when some new hotness comes along and getting one then. When, if ever, should prices come down somewhat? Looking at the Sprint site doesn't fill me with optimism because the 16-month-old EVO 4G is still $449.

maybe a used one with the way to go? There could be several others out there with a situation like mine (that may want to sell theirs, though we aren't , we did think about it) :

Due to an issue returning the phone on the 14th day - the local store considered it the 15th day, Sprint later removed us from contract but didn't refund the phones (but at $199 w/o a contract , that's ok).

If the RevB announcement Evdo pans out and the Epic Touch is compatible we activateavet them and ditch Verizon. But thinking about it we will keep them I'm i'm sure others would sell, so there mustplentyenty of them out there used for sale from people in a simisituationaion as mine...

I'm sure others for diff reasons will be selling barely used Epic Touches, maybe you can scoop up on a deal like that which i would think if the list is $500+, I would think $300 would be a fair price, but then i have never bought / sold phones , good luck as it is a great phone (if Sprint is OK in your area - that was our problem) - ialready havehaveae Sprint then you must be OK with their service , can test an Epic Touch at a local store and make sure the data speeds are what you are expecting etc....

you'll like the phone, i'm sure. Even as unactivated, for us they make for nice mini-tablets on Wi-Fi, digital camera / cam-corder , mp3 player etc......... (def worth the $199 each paid) , as tempting as is to sell them and make $$$ , they are keepers (though I wish they were activated on our Verizon plan!)

Non-subsidized phone prices don't tend to drop much from my experience, unless the phone is a complete dog, as you've seen with the EVO. Price drops are usually used to attract new customers to sign a contract. As mentioned above, you're probably better off trying to score one off Craig's List or EBay if you're looking to save a few bucks, but of course there's always a certain amount of risk when going that route.

you will not see retail prices drop till its end-of-life status.

Dog?!?!?!? I have a couple of friends who got Epics after vainly waiting a few months for the OG EVO to come back into stock last year. How can you call it a dog? It's EOLed now and down $100 from it's original price tag. Are you referring to another EVO model?

I am going to guess NEVER.

With news leaking that Sprint MAY have inked a TWENTY BILLION DOLLAR IPHONE 5 EXCLUSIVE DEAL and with sprint committing to buy 20 million iphones over the next 4 years and fully subsidize them all by themselves....they aren't going to be dropping the price on anything anymore.

This story is madness. I'm not even bothering to get worked up over it because we'll know what's really up in less than 24 hours. I think we're going to see an iPhone 4S which will be a tweaked out, speeded-up, 3G-only handset that's a little faster than the OG iPhone 4. Whatever. If Sprint is stupid enough to hitch its future to the dying iPhone after seeing that Verizon got nowhere near the anticipated bump, then it's their own damn fault.

Err I probably worded that badly. I wasn't implying the EVO 4G is dog. Not only would it be flat out wrong, I'd be taken out back and shot for saying it.

I meant you likely won't see a price drop on this phone, "as you've seen with the EVO". The dog part was referring to phones that might see a full retail price drop before going EOL.

Or the day after Thanksgiving sale if your lucky... Don't hold your breath probably have to purchase one full price first!
