Where are 'selfie' pics stored? HTC One M9

I have a few pictures that are 'selfies' that I cannot delete.
I copy them to another gallery folder and then try to delete them from the 'selfie' folder. When I do it deletes the ones I moved too.
I have tried renaming them, changing the date, cropping them. Nothing.
I have tried emailing to my pc, changing name, date etc, then texting and emailing back to my phone. Same thing
If I rename them, and copy them to another folder, it automatically renames them back to the original name.
I am using ES File Explorer, but I can't find them. Driving me crazy.

Don't manipulate them in the Gallery app. Do so directly in the file explorer. They are located in DCIM>100MEDIA.

I tried to edit them on my pc then sent them back to my phone. No go.
I looked in the DCIM/100MEDIA folder. Empty Folder

Are you using a SD card that you are storing to? ES File Explorer shows my internal storage location as SD Card. I don't know what it would show an actual inserted card as, since I don't use one. If you do, maybe there is some confusion there.

Yes, all pics are stored on an sd card. ES File Explorer shows it as ext_sd.
This hasn't always happened though.
I may try to connect the phone to the pc and move them from pc to phone directly.

Sounds like there could potentially be issues writing to the SD card. I would try reformatting it or even better, if possible for you, try a different SD card to see if you have the same issues with it.

Tried copying it from pc to a folder on the phone. It copied fine, BUT as usual it also automatically copies it into the 'selfie' folder, in the gallery, on the phone.
If I delete the copy in the 'selfie' folder, it deletes the copy in the other folder I copied it to.
I literally checked folder I could get into and don't see it.
For some reason it keeps thinking it is a selfie. I have renamed it, changed the date, cropped it, made it read only, unblocked it. This is frickin stupid.

Don't have another sd to try.

The pics in the Selfies album are merely shortcuts linked to the original pics. I'm not sure how it distinguishes which pics are selfies, but I'm thinking the resolution of the pic is good guess. As an experiment, you could try slightly resizing one of the pics and see if it allows you to keep it out of the Selfies album. Just do a slight crop of one of the pics. Sorry, I wasn't fully grasping the initial extent of your issue. I don't think your SD card is the issue. You are merely trying to find a work around for a odd design of something on the phone. I don't like having that Selfies album myself.

If you don't want any pics at all separated into the Selfies album, you could also hide the entire album.

I have tried cropping them.
I have renamed them.
I have tried sending them via email and text from my pc to the phone.
I have tried drag and drop from pc to phone folder.
Each time it duplicates wherever I drop it to. It automatically places a duplicate pic in the selfie folder on the phone. Any other pic I do with is fine. It's these 2 pics. Yes they were originally selfie pics, but why does it continue to duplicate?
I think you are right saying that they are shortcuts ORIGINALLY, but why when I do it from the pc to the phone? Just very odd.

Just opened one of the pics up in Adobe Pro and saved it as a jpg with different name and cropped it some.
Sent it to my phone.
It downloaded in the selfie folder.

Took another totally different pic and sent to phone.
It downloaded just fine.

No matter what, anything in the Selfies album is link to the original, which will also show in whatever album you placed it in. The key is determining how the gallery distinguishes how the pic is a selfie and removing or changing it. I only speculated it could be the resolution. It could be some kind of flag embedded in the pic when it is taken with the selfie camera. When I get a chance I will take a close look at a pic and see if I can find anything, but it is odd that it would only do this to some of your edited selfie pics and not all.

Yes, I just pulled a random pic from my pc, never was a selfie, and sent to my phone. It went in just fine.
Its something with these 2 selfie pics. Even though they have been manipulated to heck and back, they still show up in the selfie folder.

Well I finally found a work around.
I changed the extension from a jpg to a png.
Sent it from my pc to my phone. Moved it to the folder I wanted. It did NOT put itself in the selfie folder like it was before. :)
FINALLY
