Where are the apps I'm not seeing on my desktop?

In Android 7, when I go to the Settings/Home Screen/Hide Apps menu, I can check the boxes on the apps I want to hide, which suggests I should SEE the other apps - but no. I there are apps showing - with boxes unchecked - but the apps aren't on any of my home screens. They're also not in any folders. Where are they??

In the App Drawer. How to access it (ie, what icon to tap) depends on your device's launcher.
