Where did it go? WHY!?!

I've been having this problem for awhile now and it's becoming extremely frustrating, especially when I love almost everything else about this phone. I find it extremely unusual that they haven't fixed this issue after all this time.

WHAT IS UP WITH THE CONTACT LIST ON THIS PHONE!?

I've searched the forums and haven't found a logical solution to this problem. Now when I sync with my gmail account, I had a lot of duplicate contacts. That isn't to big of a deal bc you can "join" the contacts BUT then when you want to text someone or call someone, it shows you the same number 3 times the options to call. In order to remedy this problem, I've tried separating the contacts and deleting the duplicates but when you do that, no matter which one you delete, Facebook unsyncs itself. So I've tried deleting each one and starting over again, then when I do that and save it, I can no longer find the contact in the contact list.

This has happened with a couple of my contacts now and I can't re-sync them to Facebook and I've completely lost them and can no longer locate them in my contact list even after I've created a brand new contact for that person.

I've read that other people have this issue but I've only read the a "factory reset" each time this happens is the answer. Does anyone have a better way? I can't possible do that every time.

Please someone help me. How can i relocate these contacts? Why do they disappear when I try and re input them into my phone?

Why doesn't Android fix this?

Do you perhaps have multiple numbers/duplicate contacts for these people in your web gmail account? I had this issue, and I simple went on web gmail and did "find duplicate contacts". Gmail will find them for you and you can merge them.

Try going to Gmail on your computer and initially inputting all of your contacts there. I did that when i first got the phone and now add the new contacts to my gmail account.

See if that helps any.

I'm trying to think what might be the reason for your duplicates... I imagine its because you are allowing facebook to put all its contacts in as well... I suggest you don't. Only allow facebook to sync with existing contacts.

I haven't had this issue on my phone and I got it release day so its probably how you're setting it up.

Ok I found it by going to my gmail account and resyncing it which seemed to work! Thanks Tdawgui...now any idea why it won't resync with my facebook contacts? I've tried toogling it in the display options and in the facebook settings with no success. Any suggestions?

This always happens when I delete a duplicate contact, Facebook desynchronizes with that contact completely.

Have you tried selecting "Remove Facebook data"... then reselecting "Sync with existing contacts"...

it'll take a minute or so to resync... you can force resync by going to your contacts, options, accounts, click on your facebook account, options, "Sync now"

***just wondering, do you have auto-sync and background data checked?
if they aren't, check them....
if they are, try unchecking them and re-checking them. (who knows... the phone may think they are unchecked even though graphically they appear checked)

I'm having a similar problem !!! Last night I saw my phone sync and all of the sudden my contact pics all went missing !

Now when i go to view contact it says "view facebook" instead of just having their status

Most of those tips worked, its just a hassle to sync the names again for people it didnt sync with off the bat !!!!

I notice this here often, and I noticed that.

Say I type in "Dad" to send him a text message. I will see the same number twice.

In my contacts "Dad" has a cellphone and the contact is also linked to Facebook which also has a cellphone (which is the same number).

That is why you will see the see the same number twice. I don't understand the logic, it annoys the heck outta me, but it's just one of those things that 'Droid Does'.

but it's still beta and has its issues
