where did the screen lock go

I have a droid 2 r2d2, I set up data encryption on my handset, It reset my phone, that is not so bad, I have been thinking about redoing my screens, but my screen lock has disappread, it is no longer there. and I can't find a way to reinstate it. I also can take the encryption off. Will I need to do a factory reset eventully.
