PROBLEM SOLVED
It was pretty rough going, but.....
Tried everything I could think of but the screen would not go away.
So, went to the local Verizon store and let one of the representatives work on it. As expected, an app was considered the culprit. After a while, the rep gave up and gave me a phone number for Tech Support.
Next, called and was really impressed with Kim, the Verizon rep. She asked a few questions and remotely connected to my phone. Key was going into Safe mode. The suspect screen did not appear......this verified that it was an app causing the problem.
Continuing, she gave me a list of apps that had recently updated. (About the time this occured)
I uninstalled one by one and found a radio app that caused the issue. I don't think that anyone was looking for this. Most concern was a cleaner or security app.....not radio!!!
Screen has been gone for a day and phone is back to normal.
Thanks for the response to my post and to Kim at Verizon.
