where do i find to attach a ringtone to a contact for sms?

Pretty sure. That app was in the infuse I replaced and I never dl'd it again. But if I remember correctly, each tone had a few options when opened one of which was contact text alert.

Now u got me doubting it was actually possible and I'm almost ready to install the tones on my new Infuse just to see if I am remembering it correctly.

I was hoping there was just a regular option somewhere to do it....

No, you will not lose anything. I assume that the backup is just a cautionary step.

Just make sure that you read and understand the instructions.

Luis, I just did it. So far so good and I had all of my apps still on my phone! Thanks again for the advice.

Well, I'm loving the infuse so far... I am bumbed out though. I can't set individual text tones for contacts, or my apps like facebook, myspace (yes i still use it), twitter, welll, all my apps.. This may make me miss my BlackBerry. :(
I'm not sure about assigning an App (Facebook, twitter, etc..) a specific text tone, but using Go SMS allows you to assign specific tones to individual contacts. Go SMS is free on the Android Market, and allows for all sorts of custom views/alerts, etc...

I know this is late, but I just saw this thread. I came from BB too and -needed- to assign ringtones to different contacts. I downloaded an app called WhoIsIt from the market. It's a little weird setting it up, but it works. The only thing that doesn't work is gmail notifications. Google stopped allowing 3rd party apps from accessing gmail last week. I use it for everything else though. Again, it is a pain setting it up, but it does work. It's the only thing I've found that allows me to assign ringtones.

Ringo is perfect just like what was mentioned in the post from billbobaggins.I also came from using a blackberry too and haven't looked back ever since I made the change to android.Their are a few things to get used to while using an android phone but I've noticed that if there's something you can't do on your phone that you can just download an app that will do whatever it is that you're trying to do

Re: Woooohoooo

You will love your Infuse. I come from an iPhone 4, before that an iPhone 3Gs, etc. I got to admit, at first I was hesitant, the first few days I carried both phones, now into my third week with the Infuse and I won't look back.

I got the nerve to root, then I flashed Infused and I love my phone more each day. You will too. :p

Luis

Effing Agreed.
