I have held off on rooting my 2nd Thunderbolt for different reasons. I think several of the little quirks that the Thunderbolt has will be fixed by the Gingerbread update. I have always rooted my phones, I want to keep the Thunderbolt stock, waiting for this update is getting pathetic. There is no way that this update is that complicated that HTC and Verizon can not figure this out. If the small time developers (talented) can put out Gingerbread roms then there is something seriously wrong with HTC and Verizon. Give us what we were promised when we purchased this device. This device was advertised with Gingerbread, then back stepped to Froyo. I am getting very frustrated waiting for this damn update. I see more and more 2nd rate phones getting Gingerbread updates, where is the update for the Thunderbolt?????

Yay! Another "where's the Gingerbread!" thread! Huzzah! Are we done with them for today now?

i agree Vinny...
i feel the frustration.
but i haven given up complaining. all it does is raise my blood pressure. not worth the time.

lesson learned. don't trust the carriers on 'it will get soon". only trust what it has Now.

If it's in the oven I sure hope someone is keeping their eye on it because we don't want it burnt.

They've sold you the phone already. They have no incentive.

I've been on the 2.11 ruu for a few weeks and I'm glad I did it. It was a pain reinstalling everything though. If you can't wait, try it out, but the official release is probably close enough now that flashing the leaked ruu's would be a waste of time.

IIRC, all of the thunderbolts updates have come out on a monday evening, around 6PM EST.

If they truly stick with their Q3 statement, I would expect to see it tonight or on the 26th.

As for them not having an estimated release date, I got an email 3 days before the last update after I complained about reboots they said they don't have a release date for a fix. So, when they say "we don't know," either who you're talking to is too low on the tech support tree, or they just can't tell you.

If I do not receive the Gingerbread update by the end of THIS month I will go down to my Verizon store where I purchased it and shove it up the salesman butt. I was told by the salesman when I bought it that Gingerbread was just a couple of weeks away. That was 21/2 months ago. I do not like being lied to. If I tell my customers a finish date on their project and I am not done I pay a penalty for every day I am late. What does Verizon do?

Bamf > Verizon

Even when Verizon gives you gingerbread, the developers will already be three steps ahead.

Just root people it is way better and very easy don't worrie about Verizon bamf forever is very nice smooth and sence 3.0

It seems as though Verizon might be deliberately holding off on the GB OTA update for the ThunderBolt in order to jump start sales of the new Motorola Droid Bionic. Doing so gives the Bionic the advantage of being VZ's only 4G LTE device currently running GB. If the TB also had GB right now, some VZ customers might prefer the TB's form factor, the unique TB kickstand, the TB's HTC Sense UI, the greater memory the TB offers for storing files, and the TB screen that some users prefer over the Bionic's design. The difference in performance speed between the Bionic and the TB is likely to be negligible at this point because the performance will be primarily related to the speed of VZ's 4G network. Software will need to be written to take advantage of the Bionic's dual core processor before the processor has much of an impact, and that will take awhile.

Hopefully VZ will still issue the GB update for the TB by the end of September after having given the Bionic a chance to get a strong sales start. Perhaps VZ also wants to do Google a favor since they just offered to buy Motorola.

No offense, but I gotta say, I think this is hogwash.
