Where is the AD coming from?

I have the following two devices:

1. Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition
2. Galaxy S4

Every now and again, I get a full screen ad on the screen with an "X" on the top corner. Where is that coming from? What app have I installed that is producing that? I asked my wife if she gets it on her S4 and she does not. So it has to be coming from an App. But I have too many to know which is producing this annoying ad. The ad changes each time so it's not consistent.

Anyone has any ideas?

A lot of games do this, but usually while they're running. Some wallpaper apps tend to adopt this shady ad behavior. In any case, I suggest you install Lookout's Ad Network Scanner and Detector. It's served me well in the past to pin point which apps are running ads that are just intrusive and annoying.

I have no games installed on my phone. I have a few installed on the tablet though. And to be honest, I get the ads on the phone more so than I do the tablet. I will install this program and see if it helps.

BTW..I ran this app and it didn't detect anything. It says 34 apps are collecting location information and 48 apps are collecting network information.

But nothing that is displaying the ad.

I had the same problem and found it to be an app that was running in the background. Needless to say I deleted it and reported it to Google.

I did some testing. I am not 100% but I think I narrowed it down to Text Plus. The ad always seems to appear after using this app. I have had this app for years but the ad recently appeared.
