where is the update?

I had something automatically download yesterday. I thought it was the update (I don't know what else would do that). Whatever it was, it messed up my rooted stock NC and I had to do a reset to factory values. I'm leaving it unrooted, just in case.

The people who purchased their NCs from HSN were supposed to get the update first. I assume B&N keeps track of MAC IDs or some other electronic number and sent devices with a specific range of numbers to HSN.

My guess is that the update is nearly live and B&N is testing the update procedure on their servers. They probably screwed up the filters and it caused roberto's device to see the update. I suspect that the HSN devices will begin updating within a couple days (perhaps this weekend), and then all other devices will follow a few days to a week later. Granted, this is pure speculation on my part.

My 2 cents is your don't want to be first unless there is something in 2.2 you really need (Flash maybe?). I am going to wait to upgrade until a rooting procedure for the new version is available.

Exactly my thoughts. whatever that update might bring, we have much better stuff already with CM7 and Nookie Froyo.
