i downloaded a ringtone via mablio and i was wondering if i could someone make it my alarm which would mean the file needs to be saved in the ringtones folder... however when i use astro file manager to try to move the file from my sd card to the system/media/ringtones folder it will not let me paste it... any ideas?

Have you tried to just plug it into the computer and copy the folder over (treating it like a USB drive)
I transfered all of my music to the SD card in this manner and it was the same as using my thumbdrive

you can only open the sd card from the phone when you plug it into the computer. it will not let you get into the system of the device itself, at least i dont think so

I thought it needs to go to a directory named notifications in the root directory of the memory card. Try that.

it will not let me copy or move anything from the sd card to the device (ie- notifications or ringtones folder) and i can not see those folders on the computer when mounted... only the sd card

solved it!

ok heres how to do it unless anyone else wants the same answer that i was looking for.

If you use mablio then you need to send the song to your gmail account

when you do this open the email and download the file which will put the song into the downloads folder on your sd card

now either use astro or mount your droid on the computer (easier this way) and create a folder called media

in that folder create another one called audio

and in the folder create another folder called either alarms, ringtones, or notifications.

put your song in whichever folder you want to use it for and WALA!

Since the root names are the same for the sd card and the device memory the phone picks up the media from both root directories so your new song will be in the list when you go to select it from the list!

Thought this would be pretty helpful

Good job figuring it out :)

P.S. - I edited the thread title to be more descriptive and to provide better search results.

I have found that of you download something then you can make it your ringtone and it will transfer automatically to your ringtone folder. Then all you have to do is go back and change your ringtone if you don't want that one as your ringtone.

I have a question for anyone out there. Am i able to add a song from my pc, add it to my EVO and assign that song as a ringtone for my msgs?? if so how can i do it?

Just use the mass storage mode on your device when connected to your PC.
On the SD card open Media>audio>notifications and drag and drop whatever
you desire into that folder. The "notifications" folder is specifically for message
notifications such as sms, email, IM, etc. From what I've gathered at least.

Oh and thank you for this thread. I had an easy time doing the drag and drop for
notifications but couldn't figure out why I couldn't get actual ringtones to work. All good
now :D

Do the notifications have to be in a certain format such as WAV. or does it not matter?

Access your SD card. Go to media>audio. In there create a folder named
"Alarms." Just put that tone in the alarms folder now. Should show up in
your alarm options now.
