I decided on the turbo because I like the close-to-stock android, and I was nervous about the android updates.

If the z3v had an unlocked boot loader, I'd probably have one by now. Considering it doesn't, I'll hold onto my turbo and see how L is when it comes out.

If you're on Verizon you can only get the Zv3. Otherwise, take a look:

Seems to have it all--battery life, camera, design, but then it has a Sony software skin on top of Android.

I was totally pumped when I heard that the Xperia Z3 was coming to Verizon! Then I heard that it was going to named the "Xperia Z3V". I was worried.

Turns out my worries were justified:
-Same design as the Z2
-Same camera as the Z2
-Ugly Verizon logos both on the front and back
-Little to no case options

To top it off? It wasn't even running the newest Snapdragon processor.

Verizon and Motorola then brought out the Droid Turbo. It is more or less a Nexus 6, but at a manageable size and a bigger/beefier battery (and a 21MP camera vs 13MP).

I would go into a Verizon store and play with both, but chances are you're going to walk out with the Droid.

I do like that Sony is updating their models every six months. So, I'm guessing in the spring, Verizon might have the Z4 compact and that abomination Z3v will be replaced with a true Z4 with no Verizon hackery.
