Pick an upgrade for my mom

So, my mom currently has a Lenovo S960 Vibe X. If you don't know what that is, it's a phone that has a 5-inch 1080p display, a 1.5GHz quad-core Mediatek MT6589T and currently runs the same version of Android as it did when it was new (Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean). It's crapping out badly now, as it requires 2-3 recharges per day now. It has a 2000mAh battery, BTW. She asked if her phone has a removable battery, to which I said that it is actually sealed, which pretty much irritated her.

So, an upgrade is on its way. I've got a list of phones that I think can appeal to her. If you've got any other suggestions, please suggest them. The following criteria should be met;
1) Easy to find and purchase
2) Costs less than $400
3) Has a guaranteed Android upgrade path
4) Maximum size is 5.7-inches
5) Battery should be large
6) *OPTIONAL* Removable battery
7) *OPTIONAL* SD card slot

So far, I've got my eyes on these. What do you think?
1) 2015 Motorola Moto X Pure - $399.99
2) 2014 Motorola Moto X - $299.99
3) ASUS Zenfone 2 ZE551ML 64GB - $299.99
4) 2015 Motorola Moto G 16GB - $219.99
5) LG G3 16GB - $329.99

Re: Pick an upgrade for my mom

In my opinion, the Moto G 2015 will be a great phone. You won't overpay for a device and it fits with what you are looking for (minus the removable battery). You can also find deals on last years model if you want to give a closely related device a try for even cheaper. But I would believe the newer model to be just right.

I'm also thinking of the 2015 G, but knowing my mom, she probably wants one with better specs.

It's going to take some convincing for her to get it.

I'm also thinking of the Zenfone, but really, if I can get her to buy the X Pure, that would be the holy grail.

The Moto X Pure would be a great device if that's what she'll like. If the update path will be anything like the past two generations, then I would not worry about it not receiving timely updates in the future.

Re: Pick an upgrade for my mom

She's running a 1.5ghz Mediatek processor on 4.2, and you think she's going to complain about specs??? The Moto G is universally reviewed as the best Android phone in its price range by a wide margin.

Third generation Moto G.

Take her shopping at Best Buy or similar and let her physically look at the phones. She might see something that simply appeals to her eyes.

We're going to do so soon.

I'm still eyeing on the Moto X Pure edition as she's a sucker for large phones.

I'll throw in the 2015 Nexus 5 as a potential candidate if the price is right.
